Unfriended

Have you ever been 'unfriended' on facebook? 'Cause I'm pretty sure I just was. I'm not positive why, but I have a pretty good idea it was because of this:

At first I was a little hurt - we became friends in middle school! - but we haven't spoken since high school and our lives have taken very different paths. Then again, that's what facebook is all about - keeping in touch with people you haven't seen in forever.

I must have really ticked him off when I started inviting people on facebook to join the cause Protect Marriage: One Man, One Woman. But I didn't invite him (I'm not that insensitive) . . . he must have read about it on the news feed . . .

Oh well. This isn't the first time I've lost friends for my beliefs. And even though I can't really call California 'home' any more, this cause means too much to me to stay quiet. If any of my readers do live in California and are registered to vote there, I encourage you to VOTE YES ON PROP 8! If you need more incentive than that, or you have no idea what I'm talking about, here are a few websites you should take a look at:

www.protectmarriage.com

http://preservingmarriage.blogspot.com

www.yesonproposition8.com

and an article that applies to my particular situation:

Disagree but don't be unkind

Orson Scott Card said it way better than I could have. Shocker.

i have been unfriended on facebook before but i think it was because they decided they just didn't like me.

i went to lunch with one of the people who is responsible for the yes on 8 in campaign in orange county last week. hearing his stories, i think he would welcome being unfriended on facebook versus some of the things he's been through.

Don't worry about being "unfriended." It's his loss, because you are awesome!!! Anyway, it's always more important to choose the right than choose the popular! Haha, that sounds cheesy, but it's true. :-)

Hahaha Jean, you're like a walking MormonAd.

Bridget, that stinks. I don't know if I've been "unfriended" (do you get notified or anything?), but I say GOOD FOR YOU for standing up for what you believe in. Also, thanks for the Orson Scott Card article - I REALLY like it.

YES ON 8!

i can guess who you're talking about! ha ha.

have you seen proposition 8 in plain english on youtube? i love the explanation, but maybe they're too naive thinking that this issue won't divide us from our gay friends.

Excellent post Bridget. When I was home last weekend some of my friends started to combat the 'Yes on 8' sign vandalism by waiting around and reporting the thieves. They documented a couple on video.

I told you facebook is no good. :) Yeah, Prop 8 is a hot topic! My sister-in-law in San Diego is loosing friends all over the place. Not gay friends either...straight ones. People are serious about their position.

Don't you just love a woman that's beautiful AND strong. Loved the O.S. Card article; I'm forwarding it to my friends.

Just a thought. Wouldn't it be great if the entire planet was homosexual? We could eliminate the human race completely.

Ouch!

Isn't it sad when beliefs hinder friendships? Discrimination hurts in all its forms.

Looking for a campground for Girls Camp, one man refused once he heard our church's name. I'm still not over the humiliation of it.

Bridget, I think I know who you're talking about. He's not my friend anymore either, but I don't know if it's because of Prop 8 or not because he was my friend for a long time after I joined my first Yes on 8 group.

But good for you for getting the word out - we appreciate it down here! It was great seeing you at the reunion.

Good Job Bridget! I'm glad that although you are not in California - you are still firm in what you believe and where you stand. Thanks for supporting us here.
To be honest - I had a friend recently tell me she wanted to "kick over my sign". She said it in a "joking" manner, but I think if it wouldn't cost her 7 years in prison- she would do it!
I am a -YES on Prop 8- kinda person!
So, were exactly are you??? In Utah???
Hope all is Great!
