Happy 34th!

To celebrate Ben's birthday we had a yummy breakfast at home this morning after he opened his gift. Paige kept telling me he needed more - one gift is not enough, and where we're all his balloons? She must have told him "happy birthday" at least twenty times today, followed quickly by "I love you" and a hug. She was also so excited to surprise him with a cake-plate full of cupcakes when he got home from class. This evening we left the girls at home with a sitter and went out to dinner by ourselves. That feels like such a luxury these days, and so much fun to spend some time together - just the two of us.
Happy Birthday, Ben!

12 Months

Length: 29 1/2 inches (75th%ile)
Weight: 19 lbs 8 oz (25th%ile)
Head Circ: 47 cm (95th%ile)

Some things about Claire:

She loves fresh pear slices, yogurt, soggy Life cereal, avocado on sourdough toast, string cheese, and drinking out of a straw.

Most days I have to go back into her room after putting her down for a nap because she stands up in the crib, throws her binky over the side, and yells until I come to retrieve it for her. What she really wants is an extra cuddle. So we snuggle for another minute or two and then she's good. It only takes once!

She LOVES to cuddle. And she makes the cutest little sighing sounds.

She loves the sound velcro makes so we have a problem keeping shoes on her feet.

She made up a "sign" for when she wants me to sing the itsy bitsy spider. She grabs her wrist with one hand, spreads out the fingers on her other, and holds it out in front of her and waves. She gets really excited when we sing songs.

She likes to wrestle and gets pretty feisty. Her idea of wrestling is crawling all over you. It's hilarious when she comes after Paige.

She loves to wave and say hi. She gets excited when Ben comes home in the evening (usually when I'm finishing up cooking dinner) and says, "hi, Dada" repeatedly until he picks her up.

She's still a mama's girl but is getting better at letting other people hold her.

Her sleep schedule is finally pretty predictable. She's always been a good sleeper, I could just never tell when or how long she was going to nap. The last few weeks she's been consistently sleeping 12 hours at night (7pm to 7am), taking a 1 1/2 hour nap in the morning at around 8:30am and a 2 hour nap at around 2:30pm.

She's cruising around everywhere, but not walking on her own yet.

She seems to be fascinated with the cords plugged into electrical outlets and she likes to pull them out. She also likes to get into the lowest drawer in the upstairs bathroom which contains all my hair product.

When she wants to crawl extra fast she tucks her head and charges.

She loves to rip apart paper and suck on it. I had a bunch of magazines that are now in shreds.

She won't actually kiss me, but she'll make the kissing sound.

She finds animated stuffed animals (like if you move their arms and talk for them) funny and frightening at the same time.

Her dimple still melts my heart.

Happy Birthday, Claire

Our baby is 1 today. Her first year has gone by SO fast. I still can't believe she's not a little infant anymore! We celebrated her birthday yesterday at my sister's house in St. George. Thanks, Jen! Since we were all down there for Halloween anyway all my siblings stuck around Sunday morning for a birthday breakfast. Thanks for being there everyone!

THIRTY

Bleh.

But
I had a great day. Mostly thanks to my wonderful husband who arranged for a friend (THANK YOU, Kelly) to watch our kids this morning and then sent me off to the spa for a facial, manicure, and pedicure. Then he had a present waiting for me when I got home. Then after he got out of class he brought home a bouquet of flowers and the babysitter. Then he took me here where we took these pictures with my phone.

(I kicked butt, by the way)

Then he took me out to a yummy dinner and dessert.

Like I said, I had a great day, AND I didn't have to plan a single thing!

Paige's Princess Party

We had Paige's 3rd birthday party last Saturday. We rescheduled twice to try and accommodate Ben's work schedule and eventually just had to go ahead and have it without him. Since the party was at 11am I prepared everything the night before, after the girls went to bed. The first thing out of Paige's mouth the next morning when she saw the living room and kitchen was, "This looks GREAT! Mom, you planned the PERFECT party for me!" It's so nice that she's appreciative.

It was ALL princess. The girls came dressed as princesses, we had princess music, princess hair glitter, princess coloring, princess bingo, princess gift wrap, princess bracelet making, princess place settings, princess balloons, princess punch, princess cake, princess pinata, and princess goodie bags. You might say that I went princess crazy and as a result I now have princess burnout :) I actually had at least 6 other princess themed ideas for the party that I didn't use (princess: tea party, cake walk, make-up station, story-time with a "real" live princess, inflatable castle, . . .). I had to stop somewhere; after all, the party was for a 3 year old.

Here are some pictures:

The Beginning of the End (or It's My Birthday)

Today is my birthday. I am entering the last year of my 20's. Anything twenty-something sounds young and cool; anything older than that . . . doesn't. So I'm really not that excited about this birthday - it's the beginning of the end.*

Since we had to be at church this morning at 8:30am until about 12:30pm and Ben has some meetings this afternoon and then he has to go into work for a few hours this evening, we decided to celebrate my birthday yesterday.

Despite my lack of enthusiasm for getting older, I had a really great day.

I slept in and then woke up to doughnuts (and hats!)!
Later, Ben gave me an address and informed me I had an appointment there at 3pm. The surprise? A pedicure! I decided to get 'glitter toes'. I kind of feel 12, not 29. See what I mean?
When I got home an hour and a half later, Paige was napping and these were waiting for me on our kitchen table.(Your first glimpses of the inside of our new (old) house - more to come soon. Promise.)

And then Ben told me to be ready at 6:30pm and to put on a dress. We dropped off Paige with Noelle, Steve, and Anna, and Ben took me here for dinner.YUM! The food was SO good. I had the Butternut Squash Soup (BEST butternut squash soup ever), Chicken Marsala, and Creme Brulee. Delicious.

So, Happy Birthday to me :)

Thank you, Ben!

*I realize there's plenty of life left after 30 - maybe even the best parts. I'm just being dramatic.

TWO

Happy Birthday, Paige!

We won't really be celebrating P's birthday with a party for about another week (scheduling conflicts). So to mark this special day I wanted to write down some thoughts about her; the following is what I came up with.

Here are some random things I love about Paige. I could go on forever, but I decided to stop at 31:

1) the way she stumbles over her words when her brain is going faster than her mouth.

2) the way she admires herself in the mirror, especially if she has "curlies".

3) how she loves to play ring-around-the-rosie, and if we're at Honey & Papa's it must be played on the entry rug (the one with the turkey).

4) how she gives directions to each individual to make sure EVERYONE is participating, especially when singing songs with actions. "Sing it, Honey. Do it, Papa. Mama, Mama! (pointing her little finger) Come on, Daddy!"

5) how she insisted my 32 year-old brother, Chris, learn the word's to "Elmo's World".

6) when she hugs my legs, looks up at me, and tells me, "I love you, Mama".

7) the way she uses the word 'mine'.

8) how she says elephant, elphannant.

9) how she laughs hysterically when you sneak up on her.

10) how she'll sit relatively still while I put in a 'whole set' of foam curlers (see #2).

11) how she remembers everyone's names. and notices them. and asks where they are.

12) how she sings 'I Know You' from Sleeping Beauty at the top of her lungs, off-key.

13) the way she wears a tiara like she would sunglasses.

14) the way she eats some foods the completely wrong way. For example, she bites into crackers vertically and starts eating bread/toast from the center of the slice.

15) how she calls her toes, her 'little piggies'.

16) how she bops her head and bends her knees when she's 'dancing'.

17) how if she thinks I might be eating candy she grabs my mouth, pries it open, and asks "what you got in there, mom?".

18) how when she's going potty she gets real quiet right before the tinkle and loudly whispers, "Listen!".

19) how after she asks a question she tilts her head to the side and her eyes get wide while she waits for the answer.

20) how she loves to cuddle.

21) how the other day when I was leaving to run an errand (and she was staying home with her father) she ran after me yelling, "Wait! I need to give you a squeeze!" And then during the subsequent hug, she was grunting, trying to squeeze me tighter.

22) the way she pushes her hair out of her face. Forcefully. With both hands.

23) how she talks to animals and babies in a high, squeaky voice.

24) the way she says chocolate, caulk-a-let.

25) how she thinks the words 'nice' and 'warm' go together. When I put her socks and shoes on, or her hat, or wrap her in a blanket, i almost always say, "here, this will keep you nice and warm." The other day, she said something about playing with one of her cousins. She said he was fun. And I said he was nice. Then she added, "AND WARM!".

26) how she goes down easily for naps and at bedtime.

27) the way she points out her shoes and tells people that they match; as in, they match with her outfit.

28) how she grabs my quad combo, brings it to me, and say, "let's read scriptures!"

29) how she sings along with her 'silly songs' cd in the car.

30) her insane ability to recall and repeat things she's seen/heard on tv.

31) how she thoroughly enjoys brushing her teeth.

Do you have something that you love about Paige? Feel free to add to the list in the comments.

Happy Birthday Paige

We celebrated Paige's first birthday last Sunday (10 days early) so that her daddy could attend. We had the party at the Heber House and besides the usual Sunday dinner guests (McEuens and Johnsons), Grandma Honey and Great-Grandpa Miller were there; Chelsea, Eddie and Andrew drove up all the way from Vegas; the Hribars and Oehlers came, as well as Kendra and Miles, Jill, Tim and Quinn, and Michelle and Noah. Thanks for making it so fun everyone! I must thank my mom especially for taking a detour on her way home from Aspen to be there and for all her hard work in the kitchen (even with an aching shoulder). Thanks Mom!!!
Paige was a very happy birthday girl. She LOVED the balloons, patiently sat through opening the presents, and throughly enjoyed her birthday cupcake. I can't believe we've already passed that milestone!
